FAQ’S

When are fees paid?

Fees are paid on the 1st of each month in advance of the month of study by standing order.

At The Access Academy we recommend starting by Year 4 at the very latest. Children need time to build on their problem-solving skills and be exposed to exam content gradually.

Verbal Reasoning is information and understanding using concepts framed in words.

Realistically, it is impossible to state whether a child will pass or not in the real 11+ exam. The child’s performance is dependent on many factors: nerves, illness, pressure. However, regular 11+ lesson will help you to gauge your child’s strengths and weaknesses.

The exam papers are scanned by the computer and not re-marked.

We provide parents with exam papers post assessment with marks and corrections.

Please ensure your child is at the centre no later than 5 minutes before the start of their session to allow them to settle in to their session with minimal disruption. Please collect them promptly when the session ends.

Yes, they will receive homework for every session they attend. It will include: spelling sheet, the skills sheet and a reading book.

Please let The Access Academy know in advance so we can prepare your child’s materials to take away with them. It is important they stay in a regular routine of completing the work to make the progress.

The Access Academy will inform parents in advance. As an alternative contingency we may run that session online on Zoom- to ensure your child stays in a consistent routine.

Yes, all students start with a free assessment; this helps us to understand what your child has already mastered; if there are any gaps in their knowledge currently and who we can tailor these gaps to ensure their foundations are strong.

Year 6 children usually sit the 11+ exam in September of each year.

Non-verbal reasoning requires the ability to solve problems using visual reasoning based on pictures, shapes and diagrams.

At The Access Academy we recommend at least three Weekend Intensive sessions.

No, you cannot retake the 11+ exam, however some schools offer the option to take the 13+ plus examinations.

At The Access Academy we believe in strong communication between everyone involved; us, your child and you, the parent. As such, we will give you verbal feedback monthly (enough time for your child to practice and progress). We also give written feedback post assessment and at intervals throughout the programme. We are unable to give feedback to parents during session times, as we are focussing on your child!

No, we encourage children to complete the homework independently so The Access Academy can see their strengths and weaknesses. The gaps in their knowledge will enable us to plan for their bespoke lessons.

Yes, our class sizes are intentionally capped at a smaller number so we can support your child. Therefore, your child’s space won’t be offered to someone else once they have enrolled.

It is a possibility your child might not be successful in passing the 11 plus exam. Please ensure you have applied to more than one comprehensive school in the area. Most importantly, remember to encourage your child that they have performed well and that the school they will attend in Year 7 will be the best one for them. It is always possible to flourish later on and become quite successful in your chosen career, regardless of passing the 11 plus or not.
